Wow, I can’t believe it has a been a whole year since I’ve been a mother. Time sure does fly by when you’re having fun! Being a mother has taught me a lot so far and I must say, I’ve been enjoying it. It has definitely been a journey from highs to lows but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Here are a few lessons I’ve learned and wanted to share them with you.

It’s okay to ask for help.
Asking for help is something I had to learn. It did not happen overnight. Since I’m a new mom, I felt like I should be the one doing everything and that’s not how that should go. Yes, a mother is the main one caring for their child but having help is key to being the best mother you can be. Having help will allow you to rest and enjoy some self-care, which leads me to my next point.
It’s okay to have self-care and not feel guilty
Now this is something that I felt guilty about in the very beginning. I felt like my son needed all my time and I didn’t think about myself. I would feel guilty thinking about taking time away for some “ME” time. Even when I started to go to the store for a few hours, I felt guilty leaving him home with his father. However, as time went on, I realized that I should not feel guilty for leaving and taking time away for myself. Getting my nails done is self-care to me! It’s something that I really enjoy and it makes me feel like a new woman. It’s so important to have self-care as a mother because constantly tending to your kids without a break can lead to burn out. Consequently, I make it known to my husband that I need some self-care.

Don’t compare yourself to other moms
It’s so hard not to compare yourself to other moms especially because of social media and when your kids are around the same age is theirs. Social media has its way of making you feel like you’re doing something wrong or not doing enough. I had to learn that what works for me may not work for other moms and vice versa and that’s okay. Every mother is different and has their own way of teaching and raising their kids. We should not compare ourselves to other moms because God made us all different and unique. We are exactly who our child/children need!
It’s one of the hardest jobs you’ll ever have
Whew, being a mother is hard. Nothing about it is easy. You are constantly learning something new from what diapers work for them, what to feed them, what not to feed them, how to sleep train, etc. Motherhood is definitely not something you can’t take lightly. You are always working making sure your little human is well taken care of. But, it’s refreshing knowing that you birthed something so beautiful. It’s a great feeling knowing that your child is a blessing and that God saw you fit to be a mother. Therefore, He will always be right there to help you raise your child/children.
